Construction on Sixth Avenue E to resume on Monday, April 28

[DULUTH, MN] Contractors will resume the Sixth Avenue E Extension project on Monday, April 28. This work will include the closure of First Street between the Essentia Emergency Room access and private residences between Sixth and Seventh Avenues E. Road closures will look similar to those in place last season. Local resident access will still be provided from Seventh Avenue E. Emergency room access will remain at Fourth Avenue E.

Detours will be posted as follows:

  • Westbound (toward downtown): Eighth Avenue E to Superior Street, Superior Street to Third Avenue E, Third Avenue E to First Street.
  • Eastbound (toward Central Hillside): Third Avenue E to Second Street, Second Street to Eighth Avenue E, Eighth Avenue E to First Street.

Detours posted are expected to remain in place until the end of the project later this summer. Drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes when possible.

Drivers and commuters should be reminded that there are multiple downtown-area road construction detours and impacts this summer. Traffic will be impacted and drivers should expect delays in the area.
