Temporary closure on the 300 block of East First Street begins tomorrow

[DULUTH, MN] Contractors will be temporarily closing First Street between Third Avenue E and Fourth Avenue E on Wednesday, April 30. This closure is required to remove a crane working on an adjacent project and will close the street from the intersection of Fourth Avenue E to the entrance of the parking ramp serving the Sheraton Hotel. Access to the Essentia St. Mary’s hospital emergency room will remain open from both the east and west; westbound traffic will only have closures leaving the facility. Eastbound traffic should approach the emergency room from Superior Street and Fourth Avenue W. Access to the parking ramp will remain open, though drivers should be prepared for intermittent delays and contractor vehicles maneuvering.

Drivers are advised to avoid this area and seek alternative routes if possible. Traffic congestion could be increased due to the number of construction projects in the area.  The reduced lane-width conditions on nearby roadways will remain in effect during and after this specific closure. The closure is expected to last through May 1. A detour is outlined in the included map.
