Lead water service line remediation project to prompt temporary closures and detours in Lincoln Park neighborhood beginning Monday, May 19

[DULUTH, MN] City of Duluth contractors will begin work on lead water service lines at various sites in the Lincoln Park neighborhood beginning Monday, May 19. Work on each site will necessitate the temporary closure of applicable streets as follows:

• Between Carlton Street and Winnipeg Ave:

• • Closure begins Monday, May 19 and is expected to last through  Wednesday, May 21.
  • Access to Lincoln Park Middle School will be maintained, but must be approached from the west via Carlton Street.
  • Neighborhood residents and service vehicles may use crossings of Third Street at Chestnut Street, Vernon Street, or Restormel Street.  
  • Signed detours will be posted as follows:
    • Westbound: Third Street to 27th Avenue W, 27th Avenue W to Superior Street, Superior Street to Carlton Street, Carlton Street to W Third Street/Grand Avenue.
    • Eastbound: Grand Avenue to Carlton Street, Carlton Street to Superior Street, Superior Street to 27th Avenue West, 27th Avenue West to W Third Street.

• Between 25th Avenue W and 27th Avenue W:

• • Closure projected to begin on Wednesday, May 21 and expected to last through the end of May 23.
  • Access to Lincoln Park Drive will be maintained but must be approached from the east.
  • Signed detours will be posted as follows:
    • Westbound: W Third Street to 24th Avenue W, 24th Avenue W to W First Street, W First Street to 27th Avenue W, 27th Avenue W to W Third Street.
    • Eastbound: W Third Street to 27th Avenue W, 27th Avenue W to W First Street, W First Street to 24th Avenue W, 24th Avenue W to W Third Street.

These closures are each anticipated to last two to three days, and dates are subject to change without notice. Detour maps are included here.

The closures may cause significant travel delays. Pedestrians may be required to cross streets to avoid closed sidewalks. Drivers and pedestrians should consider alternate routes to move through the Lincoln Park neighborhood, when able.
