Road closure notice impacting portions of 25th and 26th Avenues East

[DULUTH, MN] Beginning tomorrow, September 27, 2025, contractors working on a water main project will reopen London Road between 25th Avenue E and 26th Avenue E to traffic. Work will then close both 25th Avenue E and 26th Avenue E from London Road to Jefferson Street. A detour for 26th Avenue E will be posted, using 21st Avenue E. Access to Alexander Street and the Lakewalk trailhead will be maintained but may be restricted to single lane traffic. Residents are advised to consider alternative access to the Lakewalk along Water Street or Leif Erickson Park during construction.

Detour Routes:

26th Ave E uphill Traffic: 26th Ave E to London Rd > London Rd to 21st Ave E > 21st Ave E to E Superior St > E Superior St to 26th Ave E

26th Ave E downhill Traffic: 26th Ave E to E Superior St > E Superior St to 21st Ave E > 21st Ave E to London Rd > London Rd to 26th Ave E

While London Road is reopening to traffic, street preservation work has already begun on London Road between 21st Avenue E and 26th Avenue E. This work will continue, and lanes may be restricted as this project proceeds with pavement milling and resurfacing, which will be conducted under traffic flow. Please use caution when using this section of London Road and follow traffic control signs as posted. This project will reduce the current four-lane configuration to a three-lane configuration, including a center left turn lane and bike lanes along the entirety of the section and in preparation for MNDOT’s upcoming project in 2026.
