Financial Scheme

The Duluth Police Department is aware of a financial scheme that’s hitting our community. The scam is claiming to be from Wells Fargo Bank, calling clients, and encouraging them to withdraw a certain amount of cash and overnight ship it to Florida. Recently, three individuals have fallen for the scam, but luckily the clients and our investigators were able to recover their items before they were shipped ($48,000 total). We want to remind members of our community that financial institutes will never call you and ask you to ship cash overnight or ask you to assist in one of their investigations. If you’re unsure of the authenticity of the request, we recommend you call or stop into your local financial branch and verify the details before doing anything drastic.
