K9 Gus Helps Locate Female Who Fled From Officers

At approximately 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, a Duluth Police Officer made a traffic stop in the area of 14th Avenue East and East 1st Street. During the stop, the driver of the vehicle got out of the car and the passenger of the vehicle got into the driver’s seat and fled the scene. A short time later the vehicle was located, unoccupied, in the 200 block of East 6th Street.

Officer Abbott and K9 Gus were called to the scene and utilized a recent training on scent specific searching. K9 Gus tracked the driver of the vehicle to a residence in the area. Officers set up a perimeter around the home and eventually made entry.

39-year-old Amber Hammond was located inside the residence. She was transported to a local hospital and then transported to the St. Louis County Jail for pending charges of 5th Degree Possession, Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Probation Violation, and more.

Good work to Officer Abbott and K9 Gus for utilizing a recent training to locate where the individual was, as well as patrol group D for continuing to follow up and apprehend this individual!
