City of Duluth provides update on snow operations

Wednesday, November 26, 2025 | 8:30 AM

[DULUTH, MN] Duluth residents woke up to varying snow depths today, depending on location, ranging from four compacted inches on up to over ten with drifts. The largest rate of snowfall was in the early hours of the morning, and the snow continues to move east and snowfall rates continue to decrease as of this update. The snow is blowing, with gusts of 30-45 mph. The National Weather Service in Duluth is forecasting little further accumulation between now and the evening, but the winds will continue throughout the day, creating whiteout conditions at times. City of Duluth plow crews have been working at clearing roadways since 6:00 pm yesterday, with full staff on shift beginning at 2:00 am this morning to clear Priority 1 (high-traffic main) roadways.

Plow crews will continue to work on Priority 1 (main) and 2 (residential) roadways throughout the day today, with hopes to get into the city’s Priority 3 (alleyways, gravel roads, dead ends) network shortly after. Plow operators are contending with the snow compaction and whiteout conditions that residents are, so the City of Duluth asks residents to avoid driving if they can, and to give the plow operators plenty of room to operate if they must be on the roads. Remember: take it slow on snow and ice.

Illegally parked cars continue to be an issue that hampers plowing progress, so please be mindful of parking regulations, or risk your vehicle being ticketed and/or towed. Alternate side parking is on the odd side of the street this week.

As a note: City of Duluth facilities remain open to the public today, but with the pending holiday and road conditions today, many staff are away or working remotely and staffing in some offices may be minimal.

The City of Duluth will provide updates on snow plow operations as conditions warrant. The City thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews work to maintain roads during and after snow events. Please stay safe while traveling.
