Community Invited to Comment on Future Redesign of Sixth Avenue East

The City of Duluth, Fit City Duluth, and Neighborhood Housing Services have partnered to host a public open house to gather community input on the future redesign of 6th Avenue East. The open house will take place on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Central Hillside Community Center located at 12 East 4th Street starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m.

Sixth Avenue has been a principal route for traffic headed from downtown towards Duluth Heights or the Miller Hill Mall area. The open house will provide an opportunity for participants to view and comment on draft concepts that address safety, walkability, and access for pedestrians, bikers, and motorists sharing this road. Staff will be present to address questions and gather comments.

The local consulting firms of Public Solutions and SEH were hired to create the draft designs. This 6th Avenue East redesign study stems from the East Hillside Neighborhood Revitalization Study of 2006 and is funded with Community Development Block Grant dollars. Results will also be valuable to the City’s Complete Streets initiative which strives to design roadways that are accessible, safe, and welcoming for all users.
