INCIDENT LOCATION: Getchell Road north of St. Louis River Road
On Friday, December 31st, 2010 at 2:44 PM, the Duluth Police Department responded to a two vehicle crash on the Getchell Road just north of the St. Louis River Road.
A blue 2002 Jeep Liberty was traveling northbound on Getchell Road when it lost control and crossed over striking southbound silver 2000 Ford Focus. Both vehicles came to rest into the opposite side ditches. The driver and lone occupant of the Focus, a 41 year old Duluth man, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Duluth Fire Department and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 21 year old male driver and lone occupant of the Liberty was taken to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment to a minor leg injury. Impairment is not believed to be a factor and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The crash is under investigation by the Duluth Police Department. No further details are available at this time. Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
