BY: Public Information Officer Jim Hansen

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Fire Death Victim Identified
CASE NO.: 11000498
INCIDENT DATE: 1/1/2011
INCIDENT TIME: 2055
INCIDENT LOCATION: Tri-Towers 228 N. 2nd Ave. E. #1316

The Duluth Police Department has identified the 56 year-old Duluth man who died as a result of a fire in his apartment at Tri-Towers (228 N. 2nd Ave. E.) on January 1, 2011. The victim has been identified as Peter Pocan.

Pocan, who resided in Room 1316 at Tri Towers, was severely burned as a result of a fire in his apartment that was reported at 8:55 pm. That fire was ruled accidental, the result of a carelessly disposed of cigarette which burned a couch that Pocan was sleeping on.

Pocan was initially treated at Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center for severe burns, but later transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he died a short time later.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office is in charge of the death investigation, as Pocan died in Ramsey County. Inquiries regarding the cause of death should be directed to that office.

The Duluth Police Department is seeking information on Pocan’s next of kin. Anyone with information is asked to contact Duluth Police Fire Investigator Todd Kuusisto at 218-730-5709.
