SUBJECT: Vehicle Prowl Arrest

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Vehicle Prowls

INCIDENT DATE: 1/5/2011
INCIDENT TIME: 0500 hrs.
INCIDENT LOCATION: 700 block of W. 2nd St.

On Wednesday, January 5th 2011 at approximately 0500 hours, Duluth Police investigated the report of a male, dressed in a black hoodie prowling the reporting party’s vehicle in the 700 block of W. 2nd St. The reporting party pounded on the window of her apartment, which caused the male to flee on foot towards Mesaba Ave.
 
During a search of the area, Officers located a male nearby who matched the reporting party’s description of the suspect. Officers identified the individual as Brandon Demario Shaw, age 19 with no permanent address.   During the investigation Officers find Shaw in possession of a hatchet, which appeared to be used to break other vehicle windows in the area. Shaw identified eleven other vehicles that he prowled prior to the Officers locating him; several of those had their windows broken out. At the time of this press release Officers have identified over a dozen vehicles that had been prowled or damaged in the area.
 
Shaw was transported to the St. Louis County Jail where he was lodged on charges of 1st Degree Damage to Property and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle.
