Enger Tower Revitalization Project Moves Forward

Mayor Don Ness announced today a resolution which will be brought before the City Council identifying funds to pay for the Enger Tower revitalization project.  Enger Tower is in need of tuck pointing, replacement of missing blue stone, electrical and lighting repair, plaster and concrete patching, roof repair, rusted metal work gate and railing repair, weatherization and improved accessibility. The resolution, pending council approval, would allocate $372,226 from Tourism Tax Capital funds for the needed repairs and award the contract to a construction company.

Repairs are scheduled to begin shortly as the tower will be enclosed/wrapped by January 14th. It is estimated construction will be complete by late spring.

The Rotary Club of Duluth granted $100,000 to the City for lighting improvements at Enger Tower. The Rotary lighting project will be integrated into the 2011 construction schedule and will be completed in May.  The lighting of  Enger Tower project will enhance this historical landmark, bring lighting equipment to modern standards for efficiency and energy use, extend an inviting feel to community and improve the feeling of safety and security.
