The Duluth Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Hermantown Police Department, Proctor Police Department, UMD Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol conducted enhanced DWI enforcement on Friday January 21st, 2011
Officers that were assigned to the enhanced enforcement made ninety nine driver contacts, resulting in three arrests for DWI. Additionally, two underage consumption tickets were written, one ticket for possession of marijuana, one ticket for driving after revocation, and two tickets for equipment violations.
It is worth noting, eleven driver contacts that night had a designated driver behind the wheel. This was a noted increase from past enhanced DWI enforcement efforts. The Duluth Police Department, Driving 4 Safe Communities and our law enforcement partners would like to thank the media and community for helping raise awareness of the perils of impaired driving and feel the efforts contributed to the increase in designated drivers. Together we can help make 2011 our safest year ever on our area roadways.
